Protein Identification Service

Protein identification is considered a fundamental analysis process in proteomics, which hinges on it. As a company that has specialized in proteomics research for many years, Creative Proteomics can provide professional protein identification services to facilitate your protein research.

What is Protein Identification

Protein identification is the foundation of protein research, and it is the identification of a mixture of proteins in a sample. There are nearly a million kinds of proteins and they are very complex, so the study of the target protein requires finding it first in a sample. Protein molecules have many characteristic parameters, including protein fractions, molecular weight, structure, amino acid sequence and biological function, etc. At first, scientists electrophoresis-based techniques to identify proteins. But now, in addition to these traditional techniques, the mass spectrometry-based analytical technique is used more and more in protein research with its rapid development. It is suitable for MS analysis of protein mixtures after SDS-PAGE separation and in-gel digestion, as well as for MS analysis of protein mixtures after in-solution digestion. This technique plays a key role in the research of proteins' properties and functions, protein interactions, protein composition in samples, and constructing protein profiles, etc.

Molecular weight is one of the most fundamental physicochemical properties of proteins. It is the primary parameter for protein identification, which can be performed by SDS-PAGE, WB or MS-based analytical methods.

Protein primary structure, including amino acid sequences and disulfide bonds, is the most basic structural information about proteins. It is essential for the study of proteins' biological functions and biochemical reactions, and can be analyzed by Edman degradation and mass spectrometry.

Protein isoelectric point is also one of the fundamental physicochemical properties of proteins, affecting protein interactions and solubility, etc. It is also an essential parameter for protein identification. Protein isoelectric point can be determined by the isoelectric focusing (IEF) technique or capillary electrophoresis, and it can be estimated based on the amino acid composition of the protein.

Proteins are complex substances, and today's protein identification techniques can accurately determine many protein properties, greatly advancing protein research.
