31P NMR Spectra Service

The 31P NMR spectra are routine NMR technique owning to a 100% isotopic abundance and a high gyromagnetic ratio of 31P. The 31P NMR is less sensitive than 1H NMR but more sensitive than 13C NMR. Thus 31P is a medium sensitivity nucleus used for NMR spectroscopy.

The 31P NMR spectra are often used for the phosphorylation analysis of proteins and peptides. Phosphorylation of proteins or peptides is one of the post-translational modifications and plays an important role in biopharmaceutical products due to specific functions. The type of phosphorylated residues can be deduced in 31P NMR spectra depending on the chemical shift and multiple phosphorylated sites of one sample can be differentiated.

The 31P NMR spectra also can be used to analyze phospholipid bilayers and biological membranes in native conditions. A wide range of information can be obtained from the 31P NMR spectra of lipids, including lipid bilayer packing, phase transitions, lipid head group orientation/dynamics and binding proteins or other biomolecules.
