Neurological Disorders

In an Alzheimer's disease (AD) mouse model, total S-palmitoylation in the hippocampus increased by approximately 138%. Palmitoylation levels of key synaptic proteins—such as BACE1, SNAP-25, CAMKIIα, GRIK2, and GluA2—also rose significantly. These shifts are associated with abnormal amyloid processing and impaired synaptic function. Together, they suggest that disrupted palmitoylation contributes to early disease development.
